Gender/Composition IV at JACK, 2016

Gender/Power is a collaborative working methodology lead by Maya Ciarrocchi and Kris Grey. Under the banner of Gender/Power the artists produce performances, installations, workshops, and writing. Their methodology uses a transfeminist framework to directly engage with marginalized communities in order to address social justice issues around authority and gender. Rather than producing a fixed narrative, the work explores how gender presentation affects everyone regardless of their identity.

Gender/Power is participating in the inaugural Moving Towards Justice Cohort at Gibney. During the eight-month fellowship they will work to transition Gender/Power from a performance method to a workshop and pedagogical model.

In 2016 Gender/Power received grants from the MAP Fund and the Franklin Furnace Fund to create Gender/Power Composition IV. They completed a Process Space residency from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in December 2015.

Gender/Power was a Fall 2015 BAC Space Resident at the  Baryshnikov Arts Center and presented Composition II at Gibney Dance in the Agnes Varis Performance Lab, March 25-28, 2015
